Remote User Testing

Significant advantages are gained by testing users and their response to new services via the internet. In comparison with a traditional user test, a remote user test can create significantly lower total cost. Advantages are:

  • better access to widely scattered user populations
  • target groups with a limited time budget and mobility-impaired persons are much easier to engage
  • users decide when they carry out the test and complete the on-line questionnaire
  • reduced expenditure of time and travel cost for test persons and test administrators

We specialise in methods and software tools for reliable and effective remote user tests, including standardised and proven on-line questionnaires for a wide range of cases. We use off-the-shelf software tools for standard approaches. For innovative research questions we have developed new user research methods and software tools. These methods have been successfully applied and integrated into applications in projects with content-centric services and social media.

If required we carry out Remote User Testing with Webmeeting and Desktopsharing Tools. This procedure can be useful, for example when users have to test innovative search functions in their familiar environment (at work, at home, in a public place) with their own equipment (PC, iPad, Smartphone), their personal settings and configurations, and with a realistic information content. By asking questions directly the test administrator can drill down on the problems of a test person.
